Freedom! Exchange Program
The origin of Freedom!
The Sierra Leone filmmakers exchange program formed in the fall of 2021 after cultivating a connection with Jamil Sesay, starting the year prior by Dr. Stephen T. Redmon (Dr. Sengbe). In conversations with Jamil about how we could partner with one another, it became evident that there was a lack of resources in terms of quality equipment, access to refining skill sets and an exposure to a higher caliber of professional experience. By creating a structure to provide these resources from our end, we could broaden our own network by collaborating on films abroad and boost funding for both sides of the exchange. Here are some of the ways we are bridging the gap of resources in this exchange program:
Producing US premieres for previously completed independent films by Sierra Leone filmmakers.
Seeking and acquiring (by donation) equipment that is outdated by current American entertainment industry standards for the expressed use of the Sierra Leone filmmaker community.
Producing tailored entertainment industry Q&A’s for the Freedom! community.
Producing workshops delivered by entertainment industry professionals to refine skills, trades and positions.
Cultivating opportunities to broaden the network of the Freedom! community.
Creating grants for financing of future projects.
The overall goal is to create and support films that tell the true stories of present day Sierra Leone while building a bridge to the future of great promise. Please join us in making that dream a reality today!
